12/7 Basketball Game vs. AST
The HAS Basketball team survived a thrilling 37-35 heart-pounder on Friday afternoon at home vs. AST. The game was within reach throughout, with neither club extending a double-digit advantage. A key 8-0 spurt to end the third quarter was just enough for the hosts as the Eagles mounted a furious final rally thanks to creating turnovers in a full-court press. Peter Cheng managed to get to the free throw line and sink two tosses, and the final AST shot from the baseline was off the mark.
Cheng led the Wolves with another monster performance, pouring in 29 points, three rebounds, and snatching seven steals. Ni Shiue added four points, 10 rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Otis Tsou contributed six boards, two steals, two assists, and a block and Evan Wan came off the bench to spark the Wolves with four points, three steals, and two assists.
"The home crowd certainly was entertained there at the end after a commendable effort by AST. The third quarter is the most important in basketball and our run to end it was vital in securing the win," said coach Maguire. "Wen led a tremendous effort in the zone defense. Any time you can throw the rhythm off a good team like AST and produce 17 steals, it's a good day. Can't say enough about the positive play from Otis and Evan as well. Peter made a superb play at the end and showed a lot of guts to finish this one out, as did the rest of the team."
