1/22 Basketball Game VS TPCA Recap
The HAS basketball team concluded their season on Monday with a hard-fought win, beating TPCA in an epic overtime thriller by a score of 74-72. HAS stormed out of the gates with a big first-half lead led by strong shooting, only to see TPCA surge back and make a run of their own in the latter half. TPCA had a chance to win at the end of regulation, but Angus Chang snared a huge rebound to send the game to an extra session. In overtime, the game was capped by a clutch steal by Peter Cheng, which led to a technical foul on a layup and the clinching free throws.
Peter Cheng led the Wolves with a monster performance, scoring 38 points, collecting 15 rebounds, and swiping 7 steals. Senior Allen Yang was also a beast with 22 points, 12 steals, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Senior Angus Chang added 10 points, 13 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks, while senior Andy Cheng contributed 4 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. The team shot a sizzling 59% as a team overall, mostly on layups in transition. "The seniors stepped up in the midst of adversity and showed remarkable resiliency at the end," said coach Maguire. "Peter is just a big-time player performing at an elite level, and we are very fortunate to have him back for two more years. This was an outstanding season for the boys, and this was a high-level game against a strong, deep TPCA squad. Our transition game and aggressive hands defensively were the difference today."
"It's been an honour to work with the team," said Coach Lines. "I'm extremely impressed with how far the Wolves have come over the season. The contrast between our first game (with the whole team scoring just over 30 points) and our last game (with a single player scoring 38) is difficult to describe. The final game against TPCA was a fitting way to finish the season. Our Wolves worked hard for every point, ran the court, played strong defence, kept their composure, and ultimately proved that they deserved that final win."
The Wolves are 5-2.
