Elementary Debate Club

Over the past two weeks, our Debate Club has been busy building skills in persuasion, teamwork, and critical thinking!


In the videos, you’ll see students from our very first week of debate choosing a side for fun “Would You Rather?” questions. Then, they had to convince Mrs. Ferris to take their side—a great way to practice the basics of debate!


🔹 Since then, students jumped into quick 1-minute partner discussions on big topics like “Do animals belong in zoos?” and “Will robots replace teachers someday?”

🔹 Later they created presidential campaign posters, using persuasive language to convince their classmates to “vote” for them.

🔹 Last week, the Debate Semifinals began! Out of 8 teams, 4 have advanced to this week’s Quarterfinals. During each round, students practiced making strong arguments, rebutting opposing points, brainstorming under time limits, and presenting their ideas with confidence.


For the Semifinals, Mrs. Ferris served as judge . This week, 3 student judges will take the lead, and for the Finals, the entire class will decide the winners!


 We are so proud of the effort and growth our students are showing—can’t wait to see who makes it to the top!

在影片中,您會看到學生們在第一週用趣味的 「你會選哪一個?」 問題進行分組,並試著說服 Ferris 老師站到自己這一邊 —— 這是一個練習辯論基本功的好方法!


🔹 接著,學生們進行了一分鐘的雙人快速討論,主題包含「動物是否應該被關在動物園?」以及「有一天機器人會不會取代老師?」

🔹 之後,他們還設計了「總統競選海報」,用具說服力的語言來爭取同學的「選票」。

🔹 上週,辯論準決賽正式展開!八組隊伍中已有四組晉級本週的四強賽。在比賽中,學生們不僅要提出有力的論點,還要反駁對方觀點、在限時內快速思考,並自信地表達自己的想法。


在準決賽中,由 Ferris 老師擔任評審 。本週將由三位學生擔任評審,而到了決賽,將由全班一起投票選出冠軍!


我們為學生們展現的努力與成長感到驕傲——也迫不及待想看看誰能脫穎而出!
